With being at home pretty much all of the time now, we’ve slowly but surely started making rooms in the house more interesting. Whether that is a switch of art from a room or completely revamping + painting (remember my office?) a room, we’ve embraced it and it’s been fun. When the opportunity came around to update the flooring in our home with QuicTile by Daltile at The Home Depot, the challenge excited me! I call it a challenge because this was my first major DIY and to me, it was important to make sure I could make a splash with minimal impact. I had to be strategic about where to place it and then the perfect room came to mind: The half bathroom on the main level of our townhome.
BEFORE QUICTILE INSTALLATION
Our half bath is accessible from the kitchen, which is adjacent to the combined living/dining and patio. If we weren’t staying safe at home and limiting our interactions with others, our home would be open. I love entertaining and finding a reason to have friends over for wine and conversation. I know those days will be here again, and once they are, my guests are going to be so excited about our new floor in the bathroom they’d be using!
The space is 20 square feet, almost the perfect square. There aren’t any windows, and to me, it’s always been a tricky sized and rather boring space. But, why should it stay boring? Prior to adding the QuicTile, the floors in the bathroom were wood, like the rest of this level of our townhouse. Now, I love the wood in our living room, but I wasn’t a fan of wood floors in the bathroom. So once we decided the room and I explored the different styles of QuicTile, I knew that the Panda Marble with grey grout would give the floor and room the interest this nook deserved!
What was most appealing about using QuicTile is that there is no demo required. The QuicTile installation system includes an underlayment that goes over your existing floors so debris is minimal. You click the tiles together, and once it’s all set, you grout and you’re good to go. Such a time (and money) saver!
The only thing left to do was to get to it!
THE QUICTILE INSTALLATION
The QuicTile installation is, well, quick, relative to how long a tile project would usually take! This took just a few hours and depending on the space, tile installation can take two days at minimum. The most time consuming moment was removing and replacing the toilet. Having this be my first DIY, I had a friend on hand to help navigate any moments of uncertainty – and there was one when it came to the sink. We opted to keep the sink in during installation due to the way our piping is set up, and made a few cuts with a tile saw to fit around the legs. That’s why taking great measurements is so important! The time is in the preparation; not the installation. Because the tile was going to be slightly elevated compared to the rest of the floor on this level of our house, we added a plate for a seamless transition.
AFTER QUICTILE INSTALLATION
We are so in love with how the QuicTile looks in this bathroom! It has elevated the space in a major way and it feels like someone else’s house! Dare I say a hotel? I also made a few easy updates to the bathroom by choosing a larger scale poster and we plan to expand on a gallery wall in there. When it’s safe to gather, I want it to be the room that gets people talking. Why not have fun with it?
